The Dunbar Coastal Rowing Club, established this year, is a non-profit, community based organisation affiliated to the Scottish Coastal Rowing Association. The aim of the initiative is to restart coastal rowing, boat building and racing around the Scottish coastline and inland lochs.
All boats taking part in the initiative are constructed by the clubs involved to the same basic design and ours is no exception-work is well underway on our first boat, built according to an Iain Oughtred design known as the St Ayles Skiff. It is a community build, with volunteers of various degrees of experience involved at different stages and all materials purchased using donations. With a lot of teamwork and commitment we hope to complete and launch the first boat towards the end of the year and will then start working towards boat number two...
